Description

The active ingredient of Edronax® is Reboxetine which belongs to a group of drugs called selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This medicine helps to correct chemical imbalances and relieve the symptoms of depression. The remission of an acute phase of the depressive illness is associated with an improvement in the patient's quality of life in terms of social adaptation.

How it works

Reboxetine, a selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), works by affecting the level of certain specific chemicals that are imbalanced in patients with depression.

Dosage

Take Edronax® as instructed by the doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts than prescribed. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Missed dose

Take a missed dose of Edronax® as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor if any symptoms of the overdose like dizziness, loss of consciousness appear.

Side effects

The following Edronax® side effects may occur:

  • insomnia (severe)
  • dizziness (severe)
  • dry mouth (severe)
  • constipation
  • nausea and vomiting
  • sweating (severe)
  • headache
  • loss of appetite
  • lack of visual focus (severe)
  • rash (severe)
  • dilated pupils (severe)

Side effects occurrence does not only depend on the medication you are taking but also on your overall health and other factors.

Contraindications

Do not take Edronax® if:

  • You have an allergy to Reboxetine or any medicines from the same drug class.
  • You are taking other medicines used to treat depression such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
  • You have glaucoma (high pressure in the eye).
  • You are under the age of 18.
Warnings and precautions

Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had any of the following:

  • Liver or kidney disease.
  • Fits or seizures.
  • Severe mood swings.
  • Difficulty in passing urine.
  • Prostate disease.
  • Heart problems, including high blood pressure, particularly if you are over 65 years old, heart failure, recent heart attack.
  • Overactive thyroid gland.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor or pharmacist can discuss with you the risks and benefits involved.
Drug interactions

Do not take Edronax® concomitantly with:

  • medicines used to lower blood pressure
  • medicines used to treat fungal or bacterial infections
  • carbamazepine and phenobarbital, medicines used to control fits or seizures
  • potassium-depleting diuretics, medicines used to remove fluid
  • fluvoxamine, a medicine used to treat depression
  • ergot derivatives, medicines used to treat migraine
  • lithium, a medicine used to treat certain mental conditions
