Description
Antipreg Kit® is manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Antipreg Kit® contains five tablets. The first pill to be taken is 200mg of Mifepristone, and the rest four pills are composed of 200 mg Misoprostol each.
Mifepristone is a synthetic, steroidal anti-progesterone. Mifepristone acts as a competitive progesterone receptor antagonist. In medical abortion, Mifepristone blocks progesterone receptors and causes thereby endometrial decidual degeneration, cervical softening and dilatation, an increase in the sensitivity of the myometrium to the contractile effects of Misoprostol.
Misoprostol is a miscellaneous GI agent – a synthetic analog of prostaglandin E1. Misoprostol causes the cervix to soften and the uterus to contract, resulting in the expulsion of the uterine contents.
After taking the last Misoprostol pills, cramping pain and bleeding may already start in 30 minutes.
Antipreg Kit® can be used only up to 20-th week of pregnancy.
Misoprostol also acts on the stomach and intestine, creating a protective lining and thereby protects from ulcer formation.
Antipreg Kit® doesn't protect you and your partner from sexually transmitted diseases (HIV and the others).
Dosage
Take one tablet of Mifepristone. Sometimes light bleeding could be noticed after taking this medication.
Do not worry if this happens, and plan to take both medications (Mifepristone and Misoprostol).
You can take your second medication (Misoprostol) either orally or vaginally anytime between 24 and 48 hours after taking the first pill (Mifepristone).
How to take Misoprostol pills orally
Put 4 pills inside of your mouth between teeth and cheek - two in each side.
Keep the pills there for 30 minutes until they dissolve a bit. They may taste chalky.
After half an hour, sip a little bit water and swallow what is left in your mouth.
The abortion usually happens within 5 hours of taking all Antipreg Kit® tablets. Generally, it happens earlier.
How to take Misoprostol pills vaginally
Empty your bladder.
Wash your hands and lay back.
Gently push 4 Misoprostol pills into your vagina. There is no special place where pills have to be, so you just need not allow them to fall out for next 30 minutes.
Try to push the pills as far back as it is comfortable.
Try to lie down the next 30 minutes.
Misoprostol is not usually dissolved in the vagina, so don't worry if the pills fall out after 30 minutes. The necessary dose is absorbed into the body within 30 minutes.
General advice:
- It is best to drink plenty of water throughout the whole process of taking the Antipreg Kit®;
- Eat a light food before taking pills from the kit. This helps to prevent nausea;
- Plan to take Misoprostol pills at home or at any other private and safe place, where you feel comfortable;
- It is best to have somebody nearby to help take care of you or make arrangements in case you need a medical assistance;
- Take anesthetic when experiencing cramping pain, like Ibuprofen (200 mg x 4 times every six hours).
In most cases, women experience bleeding in 1-2 hours or even earlier after taking Misoprostol pills. Women commonly pass pregnancy during next 4-5 hours. The following symptoms are normal during this period: nausea, diarrhea, some chills, feeling of fever.
Be careful while taking Antipreg Kit® for second-trimester abortions, as the chances of serious complications such as uterine rupture or hemorrhage rise as pregnancy advances. Ready access to emergency care in a medical facility is essential, and women should not attempt an abortion alone. They must also be prepared for the passing of a fetus and placenta at this stage.
Seek medical emergency or contact your healthcare provider immediately in case:
- You don't bleed or have a light bleeding followed by severe pain (particularly on the right shoulder) - this may be a sign of ectopic pregnancy;
- You have an abnormal bleeding that doesn't stop after 1 or 2 hours;
- You have fever of over 38 degrees Celcius more than 24 hours after taking Misoprostol;
- You have an extreme pain that doesn't get better and is not relieved by Ibuprofen.
Missing a dose
Antipreg Kit® is used only when needed. Do not exceed the doctor's recommended dose. Do not take a double dose of Antipreg Kit®.
Overdose
If an overdose occurs and you are feeling unwell, you should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately. Antipreg Kit® is not for use more than once in a monthly cycle.
