About Aerocort Inhaler (Beclomethasone - Levosalbutamol)

Rating of sales:

Also known as:  Beclomethasone - Levosalbutamol.

Description

Aerocort Inhaler is used as a part of a regular asthma treatment. The medication is a fixed-dose combination of two active substances, Beclomethasone and Levosalbutamol, which help prevent asthma exacerbations and decrease the occurrence of its attacks. Beclomethasone is a type of steroid that prevents inflammation of the airways by inhibiting mediators which contribute to the asthmatic response, while Levosalbutamol, known as a potent bronchodilator, relaxes the smooth muscles of the airways, widens the air passages, thereby making it easier for a patient to breathe.

Aerocort Inhaler, taken through the oral inhalation, reaches the site of inflammation in the lungs and produces its effect by relieving shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing, and cough. The inhaler should not be used when an asthma attack happens. In this case, a patient will need a separate short-acting medication for the relief of acute bronchospasm.

Indications

Maintenance treatment of asthma in patients favorable to a simultaneous administration of both inhaled corticosteroid and bronchodilator.

MOA (mechanism of action)

Beclomethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with a potent anti-inflammatory activity that helps prevent inflammation of the lungs and immune responses. It binds to certain cytoplasmic receptors, affecting protein synthesis that results in stopping the formation of the inflammation-triggering chemicals in the airways, like histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, and cytokines. It also ensures a general suppression of the immune response, thus reducing the inflammation and swelling of the lungs in asthmatic patients.

Levosalbutamol is a short-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist that exerts bronchodilatory effects by relaxing smooth muscles in the bronchial tubes, thereby shortening or reversing an acute 'attack' of shortness of breath. It stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors on the airways smooth muscles which leads to an increase in cyclic adenosine monophosphate (AMP) and the inhibition of the mediators’ release from mast cells, involved in the inflammation of the airways. This helps in relaxing the constricted bronchioles and facilitates smooth breathing.

Dosage

Aerocort Inhaler comes in the form of inhalation aerosol and is to be administered through the oral inhalation route only. The medication should be administered on a regular basis and used prolongedly for optimum effect. The accurate dosage may vary for each patient, depending on the condition being treated and the severity of asthma symptoms, therefore, should be prescribed by a doctor for every individual.
